We are at times of the postwar when Josep Casanovas i Marginet, cabaler from the Tour has to leave Prullans in order to make a living. He goes to work at the Jorba factory of Manresa but he can't stop thinking of Prullans and the Cadí's mountain range not for one day. He explains in all detail the landscape of his village to his friends. Finally, he returns to Prullans. There he meets a girl from Martinet, daughter of Fonda Pirineus, Maria Teresa Isern i Planas who he is going to be married. Between both became the idea of building a hotel to offer people the possibility of enjoying the landscape of Prullans and his surroundings. The people of Prullans thought that they were mad.

Due to the postwar misery they had to use the stones from and old wool factory and in the woods they found the timber necessary to build the first building of Hotel Muntanya. It was 1944 but it is not until 1947, after the birth of their first daughter, Montserrat, that they inaugurate the hotel. In these times it was necessary to make a long journey to arrive in Prullans: you had to take the train from Barcelona or from Perpinyà to Puigcerdà, and there take the bus to Prullans. At that time the hotel has a "taxi" service with an open carriage casted by a mule picking up the guests at the bus stop. Arriving at Prullans was a little challenge!

This first building was raised on an open field which was enclosed by various pear and apple trees.

The hotel had different phases of construction every time becoming bigger and bigger. The rooms had no bathroom inside and there are various anecdotes of guests who had to keep an eye on the door so when someone was leaving that they could enter. At the beginning of the 70's, they built the residence Maria Montserrat in front of the hotel with larger rooms and the most part of them with bathroom inside. In 1987 the founder of the hotel, Josep Casanovas, died and then Montserrat became the director of the hotel supported by her husband and sons. A little bit later, the residence Maria Montserrat was closed until 1996, when it was reformed and became: the aparthotel Ca l'Aurèn.

This is the history of a building but in a parallel and in an inseparetely way it tells the story of the family Casanovas-Isern and, above all, the histories of our guests. Now and 60 years later, the third and fourth generation of these first guests are our customers. We all together continue writing the history of the hotel and The Hotel Muntanya was and is a reference of quality for your holidays in the Pirineus.
